This paper seeks to analyze a set of documents which express debates and interventions of the Catholic Church in Chilean politics in the late 1960s. I will address such analysis from a political and intellectual history perspective. To do so, I work with the lay movement critics to the decision making processes available at the institution, as well as with the Pastoral Charter and its reactions. By observing these sources, it is possible to propose a certain legitimacy auto perception and the need for the catholic scope to intervene in politics during accelerated social change. They justified this political intervention using the concepts of History, Prophecy and Hope.
