Two management treatments were performed: conventional plowing (CP) and black polypropylene plastic cover (BPC), with a randomized complete block with 10 replications and one tree per plot per both cultivar. As a preliminary result of this study, it was determined that there were no significant differences between the treatments regarding height trunk, trunk diameter, number of lateral sprouts and number of fruits per plant ('Tonda di Giffoni'). Also, with the BPC treatment, a major temperature was obtained during the growing cycle of the tress (1.50-1.45 degrees), higher than the control (conventional plowing). In the BPC treatment, the presence of undergrowth weeds was not observed in both cultivars. In the CP treatment, the presence of annual and perennial weeds was observed, even though it had been controlled mechanically four times during the season. The dry matter production of weed (kg/ha) was 4.2 and 4.0 t/ha per 'Tondadi Giffoni' and 'Barcelona' respectively.
