The results of the deterioration model show always lower JF of the short slabs than the traditional JPCPs. These differences could be bigger after a process of calibration, because real-world experiences of short slabs are showing even lower JF values than the modelled ones. In fact, there was no measurable JF after 17.000.000 Equivalent Axle Single Load (ESALs) in short slabs in USA and after 12.000.000 ESALs in Chile. In addition to the lower JF average per joint, the projects are showing that more joints not necessarily means more accumulated JF per length of pavement. In effect, in the short slabs of USA and Chile no JF was observed and in the short slabs of Guatemala was found not only JF< 2 mm but also International Roughness Index, IRI <= 2.4 m/km after 9.000.000 ESALs (average). This IRI value so close to the initial IRI of 2.1 m/km is not only good in interurban pavements but even more in urban ones where the speed is less. To keep these trends is recommended to assure an adequate load transfer efficiency (70%), to limit the fines of the granular base (<= 8% passing 75 mu m), a narrow saw cutting (<= 3 mm) and to provide adequate stiffness of the layers below the short concrete slabs.
