After over thirty years since the first edition of Octavio Paz's ambitious essay, Sor Juana, Or the Traps of Faith, this paper raises some questions to better contextualize and explain the significance of this book within the vast critical tradition of Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, as well as to try to contribute with a brief interpretation of its role in the overall production of the Mexican poet and essayist.
