In this paper the author becomes aware of the undeniable role of foreign law in comparative law and of the eventual limit of the knowledge of the idioms. It stands out and the main methodological characteristics that must be proper to the legal comparison. This latter task is not so easy and it cannot be limited to collate the texts proceeding from other legal systems with the own, without having made an important and previous methodological task.
