This article analyzes Vasconcelos 'La raza cosmica (1925) and underlines its enunciation: the individual act of appropriating of the public language according to Benveniste definition. My goal is demonstrating how his grandiloquent, civilizing, racist and aesthetic thesis summarized in the cosmic project belong to a very specific national and global frame. I identify traces of six discourses in Vasconcelos' proposal: the Mexican Revolution, the Western crisis during the inter-warperiodt, he Ateneo de la Juventuds reaction against the positivism, the mestizofilia, the North-American continentalism, and the Latinamerican continentalismo.
