In recent years the high costs in grinding have focused the attention on increasing efficiency and reducing consumption of grinding media. By this way have appeared on the market a new series of inhibitors for corrosion and collectors for flotation, under the trade name PETKOM. These reagents are interesting to study because they decrease steel consumption and act as selective collector, giving concentrates of higher purity in the case of copper. In this study laboratory tests were conducted in parallel, with and without the use of inhibitor to determine steel consumption. The pulp density used in the standard test was 70%, and 76% inhibitor, SKIK adding a dose of 30 g/t in the mill. The results showed a saving of 1.9% in the consumption of balls for the same milling time and energy costs; inhibitor also allowed the grinding of an additional percentage of a 6%. SKIK efficiency as a collector was tested in flotation, where it was compared with the reagent MATCOL (20 g/t), at doses of 10 g/t at pH 10. This new reagent showed an increase in recovery of 2,3% copper, 15.9% gold and 6.9% silver.
