The article aims to reduce the myth that the Protocol to the Antarctic Treaty on Environmental Protection has a duration of fifty years for the prohibition of activities related to Antarctic minerals. The main finding is that the fifty-year term takes place in order to make possible a Review Conference, whose requirements for making amendments or amendments are so demanding that in practice it is difficult to do them, especially when it comes to the topic of minerals, because It requires the adoption of a legally binding regime prior to the amendment or amendment of the prohibition.
