Abstract
Starting from Arico's reflections, this paper discuss Marx's concept of State and its possible impact on the way the Latin American political experience was analyzed. The paper indicates the existence of conceptual elements that Marx himself offers to understand the functions of the capitalist State in Western Europe and how it can be analyzed in the formation of Latin American nations. In this order, the cohesive action of the state and its relative autonomy from the ruling class is highlighted as aspects that also allow rethink the democratic way to socialism.
