The critique carried out by the jesuit priest Ignacio de Camargo against the Comedy in his 1689 Discurso theologico, will lead Francisco Bances Candamo to elaborate a work in his defense. The first part of this article will present the moral character of that critique, which will be refuted on the same terms, showing a position moral and politically correct of the Comedy. Focused on these points of Bances defense, the second part will present the theological grounds on which the Comedy will be able to establish the basis with the aim of constructing a preceptive that validates it, both in the realization of the work as in the social role that it plays.
