Abstract
This essay addresses the signification of the douard Manet's painting Le balcon (1868), inscribing it in a history of the gaze representations and especially, in a history of the windows topic. Essentially related to the painting, that topic reenacted, from its origins, the relationship between picture and architecture, a relationship that is problematized by this work either by the transgression of the limits between interior and exterior, or by a gaze's treatment that de-centers the observer's place returning the dynamic and scattered reflection of a modern city.
