The article deals with the European Union law on access to environmental information, in order to highlight the most problematic aspects of this legislation and of its implementation in the Members States, especially in relation to information concerning water issues. In particular, the work focuses on the concepts of environmental information, information on emissions into the environment, public authorities and in the system of exceptions to the right of access, taking into account the most recent case law of the Court of Justice.
