Objective: Complete Mesocolic Excision (CME) has been linked to improved oncological outcomes in colon cancer treatment, as demonstrated in studies primarily conducted in developed countries. This study aims to present the initial outcomes of CME implementation in a public hospital in Latin America. Materials and Methods: A retrospective study was conducted. Patients undergoing right-sided oncological colectomies between January 2019 and December 2020 in a Latin-American public hospital were included. Patients were arbitrarily assigned to CME surgery or Non-Complete Mesocolic Excision (NCME). Demographic, surgical, post-operative and survival data were analyzed. Results: A total of 38 patients were included: in the CME group, there were 5 men and 6 women, and in the NCME group, there were 16 and 11, respectively. The median hospital stay was 3 and 4 days for CME and NCME, respectively. The lymph node harvest in the CME group was a median of 20 nodes (13-23.5) and in the NCME group 19 nodes (15.5-24.5). The mortality rates were 0% and 37%, respectively. Conclusions: The initial implementation of ECM for the right colon in our center shows a favorable trend from an oncological and associated mortality standpoint. A larger sample size is necessary to corroborate these results.
