A common-ground (CG) inverter based on the split-source topology is proposed (CG-SSI). The proposed inverter offers the following features: 1) complete leakage current mitigation, 2) voltage boosting capability, 3) continuity of input current, 4) capability of reactive power support, 5) unipolar modulation mechanism; thus, low total harmonic distortion can be achieved. The operating states of the proposed inverter along with the stresses of semiconductors are analyzed. A closed loop control system is developed to achieve maximum power point tracking (MPPT) and load current regulation. A comparative study with other CG inverters is introduced. Experimental and real-time simulation results are provided to verify the performance of the proposed inverter.
