AntarcticaArchitecture is a young continent in its explorationArchitecture and development. The current climate emergency accounts for a strategic future for the countries involved in the Antarctic territory, considering the responsibilities in its environmental care. In this context, Chilean Antarctic settlements respond to the particularities of climatic conditions, connectivity, and an isolated territory from the rest of the country, with limitations in displacements and restrictions of daily functions. After 75 years of Chileans’ arrival on the Antarctic continent (1947), a ‘Chilean-Antarctic cultureAntarctic culture’ is outlined, emerged through colonization with military camps (Bases), expanding to territorial domain and sovereignty facilities with civilians and families, reaching a supportSupports system for research, with projections to a controlled Antarctic tourism. Through documentation and interviews with inhabitants, the architectureArchitecture and life experiences at the Antarctic Air Base President Eduardo Frei Montalva (1969) are historically analyzed, considering the existing set and the family homes of Villa las Estrellas (1984–2018). With the aim of understanding the relevance of everyday lifeEveryday life in the production of inhabited spaceSpace, we rely on anthropology for sociocultural analysis. With an interdisciplinaryInterdisciplinary approach, the analysis was addressed on three scales: geopolitical context and its relationship with the continent; territorial planningPlanning and interculturalityInterculturality and codependency relations with other Bases; and the architectural-social spaceSpace and its forms of habitabilityHabitability in everyday, collective, and intimate placesPlace.
