This study examines the influence of external disturbances on the recruitment of large wood (LW) in two low order streams, Pichún (Pi, 412.7 ha) and Vuelta de Zorra (VZ, 586.8 ha), in central-southern Chile from 2017 to 2022. Notably, there is a variation in the budget of LW, with Pi experiencing a 61% decrease and VZ a 79% decrease between 2017 and 2022. In the same period, the volumes of LW decrease to 65 for Pi and 81% for VZ. The years 2019 and 2017 show the highest recruitment of new wood for Pi and VZ, respectively. In 2022, both streams observed the largest disparity of LWs and the largest presence of wood jams (WJs). In Pi, 20% of WJ remains stable throughout the study period, while in VZ, 76% of WJ are present in all field campaigns. It is possible to conclude that despite both rivers being of low order, the wood present in both responds in different ways to flood events.
