Both international migration and hyper densification are part of global processes, whereby urban form and societies have undergone radical changes, resulting in the emergence of phenomena of generalized fragmentation. The construction of numerous high-rise buildings in inner Santiago has resulted in the emergence of diverse daily practices among various types of migrants in public spaces. This is largely due to the scarcity of public space and green areas, and regulations that limit certain social, economic, and civic-political activities. This research identifies the daily practices of migrants who utilize public space in the Pila de Ganso neighborhood of Estación Central, which is characterized by a high concentration of high-rise buildings. It examines the logic of their spatial location and the types of public space in use. Through the implementation of observation with moderate participation in 22 quadrants of the Pila de Ganso neighborhood and interviews with 8 migrants, the architectural and urban elements that influence their use of public space and the perceptions of the users are analyzed. The results show that these everyday practices with diverse uses of public space and that provide greater activity to neighborhoods are illustrative for current neighborhood-scale urban design agendas.
