Introduction: Lipedema is a chronic progressive disease characterized by accumulation of disproportionate fat tissue in the extremities and affects women predominantly. It is resistant to bariatric surgery, exercise or food restriction. The most frequent symptoms are pain, limb sensibility, movement restriction and bruising easily. Objective: The aim was to evaluate the effectiveness of selective power assisted liposuction in the treatment of the symptoms of lower limb lipedema patients. Material and Methods: The authors conducted a retrospective study of 109 female patients who underwent surgery between February 2020 and May 2023. Patient’s demographics, clinical and symptoms were evaluated pre and post operatively with an e-mail questionnaire. The same numeric scale was used from 0 to 10. Results: The patient’s average age was 39 years. The maximum aspirated volume was 8.100ml with a minimum of 500 ml. One hundred and five patients (97%) with pain had a significant reduction (VAS from 6,6 to 2,7). Swelling, and movement restriction had significant reduction too. Surgery complications were less than 5.5%, including anemia, seromas and prolonged neuropathic pain. Conclusion: Power assisted liposuction is a safe and effective technique in the treatment of lipedema symptoms.
