A case series suggests the benefits of implementing a non-cytotoxic, acidic pH cleansing solution in the treatment of complex wounds in pediatric patients at two healthcare centers in Santiago, Chile. As an additional treatment to etiologic management, the use of a cleansing solution composed of hypochlorous acid (HOCl) at a concentration of 330 ppm and pH 5.5 (Vashe (R) Wound Solution, Urgo Medical, Texas, USA) is proposed. This solution has been shown to be safe and effective in wound management in pediatric patients. Significant benefits are evident in terms of accelerated healing and pain reduction in treated cases. Although there are limitations in the current evidence, preliminary results suggest that HOCl pH 5.5 may be an effective therapeutic option for the management of wounds and skin disorders in pediatric patients. Conflict of interest: MCMS and IMC declare no conflicts of interest. CLG and BAD are employees of Laboratorio UrgoMedical Chile.
