The Chilean writer, Augusto D'Halmar (1982-1950), announced in the pages preceding his novel La l & aacute;mpara en el molino (written between 1904 and 1906) that he was a "precursor" among the writers of his time. Indeed, it is not only a precursor of a social project that brings together artists and intellectuals, but also of writing aesthetics that anticipate the literary productions of the avant-garde and that allow this novel to be positioned as a visionary story with respect to what It would be Chilean literature decades later. This visionary character is evident in the use of elements associated with esoteric beliefs and in the author's appropriation of pre-avant-garde movements or sensibilities such as Impressionism and Symbolism, thereby distancing himself from the realism, naturalism and criollismo predominant in the Latin American context of his work.
