The present article analyzes the magazine El Sport Ilustrado, which circulated in the cities of Santiago and Valpara & iacute;so between 1901 and 1903. It reviews the link between ludic culture and horse racing. For this reason, it is proposed that horse racing became a space of sociability while contributing to the promotion of discourses that endowed sports with the ability to convey stereotypes about virility and fostered various ideas and imagery related to liberal nationalism. Methodologically, the graphic content is analyzed and the articles, opinion columns, and interviews published by El Sport Ilustrado in its 99 edited issues are reviewed.
