Objective: To present the experience of implementing the nursing degree at the University of Aysén and the role of the University of Chile as a mentoring institution. Methods: Kern's six-step method was used to analyze and present the implementation process. Results: The collaboration and active participation of both universities in the whole process, from the identification of needs to the final evaluation, as well as the contributions at the different curricular levels, allowed for concrete and measurable contributions. This holistic approach ensured the quality of the programmer and strengthened inter-institutional cooperation in the field of nursing. Conclusions: The accompaniment process between the University of Aysén and the University of Chile is positioned as a fundamental strategy for the successful implementation of new schools, through collaborative and virtuous work that contributes to the continuous development of nursing.
