The findings of this systematic review support the use of NIRS (Near infraRed Spectroscopy) in plastic surgery. Studies have consistently demonstrated the efficacy and utility of NIRS techniques in monitoring tissue perfusion during reconstructive surgical procedures. It has been noted that NIRS can detect decreases in flap perfusion before they manifest clinically, allowing for early intervention and prevention of complications. Additionally, its ability to provide continuous, non-invasive, and quantitative measurements makes it an invaluable tool for clinical decision making during and after surgery. Although there are some limitations, such as susceptibility to external factors, the benefits of using NIRS technology in plastic surgery far outweigh these concerns. In summary, the results of this systematic review strongly support the recommendation of using NIRS as a standard tool for tissue perfusion monitoring in plastic surgery.
