This study analyzes the trajectory of the Matte business family, one of the few, along with the Edwards and the Cousi & ntilde;o, that have had the ability to remain in the long term, five generations, from the mid-19th century to the present, as one of the most important of the Chilean business elite, successfully resolving successions from one generation to another, where different branches of the family have assumed business leadership. Specifically, in this study we analyze the succession process developed in the Matte P & eacute;rez family, between 1879 and 1894, which allowed them to consolidate themselves as a business family after this successful business succession process at the end of the 19th century.
