This paper analyses the Path Dependency that changed the Chilean military's previous absence from states of exception, especially catastrophes, between the end of the dictatorship (1990) and the earthquake in February 2010. Since then, the Armed Forces have been key players in a decade full of natural disasters and the social crisis 2019. This path means moving from the initial distrust of President Bachelet's government after the earthquake to the current everyday life with which the Armed Forces assume themselves in states of catastrophe or emergency decreed without major setbacks by governments of all political signs. To this must be added the most critical reform in a century in the Ministry of National Defense, which coincided with the earthquake.
