This research aims to study the Carnation Revolution by exploring how the changes that occurred in Chile following the coup d'& eacute;tat on September 11, 1973 were received. The parallels as transformative military movements of their previous political systems lie in the democratization in Portugal and the establishment of a dictatorship in Chile, characterized alternately by the repression of the population and the role of communist and socialist parties in both experiences. However, in terms of long-term impact, both military processes were part of Huntington's Third Wave of democratization. The influence of the Velasco regime on the Portuguese process will also mark a substantial difference in how Latin American militarism was received during one of the key milestones of African decolonization in the 1970s.
