This article examines the first volume of the text Sc & egrave;nes de la vie boh & egrave;me (1851) by the French author Henri Murger, with the purpose of understanding how this work includes an artistic ideal and a way of life that occurred in Paris, starting in the 1840, through which it is revealed that both art and the figure of the artist comes into conflict with the values of bourgeois society. Using as framework the studies of Elme-Marie Caro (1871), Pierre Bourdieu (1997), Jaime & Aacute;lvarez S & aacute;nchez (2003), and Walter Benjamin (2012), as theoretical support, it is hypothesized that the modus vivendi of the characters in the novel constitutes a force of symbolic resistance against the characteristics of the nascent market society.
