According to data provided by SIES, the formal duration of the careers exceeded their real duration for a large part of the higher education system in Chile, a situation that directly affects the timely graduation of students. In the field of Law, the situation is even more worrisome since both graduation rates and graduation times are outside the average ranges of the university system. This article, using administrative data provided by the Universidad de las Am & eacute;ricas in Santiago, analyzes the current situation in terms of total time and profiles of graduates, also establishing predictors behind a timely degree for Law students. Our results show that, of a total of 1,557 total cases for the 2005-2014 observation period (both inclusive), only 175 were timely titled (assuming timely graduation = 6 years maximum), equivalent to 11.2% of the cohort, or 19.8% of the 883 who graduated. The average time of the 883 graduates was 7.69 years (deviation = 2.27 years). This study may be used by the UDLA Law School itself to determine strategies to increase the percentages of timely graduation; establish which student profile needs more support during the degree; and, likewise, offer an empirical contribution to the literature on higher education in Chile, especially within Law, where empirical studies are scarce (Carvajal, 2018)
