In Chile the implantation of the oil industry was developed by the State as a productive system with spatial dimensions, which involved a large part of the national territory. Ba-sed on the productive and logistical infrastructures built by the oil industry, the aim is to reveal the practices and understand the spatial dimension of the hydrocarbons industry in the country, between its discovery, in 1945, and the point of greatest production, in 1989. Files from CORFO and ENAP, as well as secondary sources have been inspected to determine the infrastructure works, networks, and urbanizations of the oil industry in Chilean territory. From this, the data have been interpreted based on the industrial prac-tices of the activity and the results were organized according to the productive chain in its exploration and extraction phases; transportation and storage; and distribution and transformation. The action of the State was evidenced as the result of a planning that determined from isolated infrastructures to a network of infrastructures, where the inter-vened regions assumed differentiated roles and material expressions that characterized or reinforced industrialization areas, in an integrated productive spatial system.
