This article aims to analyze the perceptions of language teachers about the facilitating and hindering elements to work oral communication from a collaborative approach. The methodological design was qualitative with a descriptive approach. An intentional non-probabilistic sample was used. The study participants were 40 Chilean language teachers. The data collection instrument was a questionnaire with open questions, the analysis of which was carried out through the emerging textual corpus of open responses. The main results highlight the importance of feedback in a face-to-face modality, unlike what happens in a virtual teaching modality. Likewise, the face-to-face context facilitates the development of communication skills and their implementation under a collaborative methodology. The role of the teacher as a guide for the generation of an ideal climate in the classroom is also highlighted. As impeding aspects, there are the negative self-perception of the student, the lack of resources and the difficulties of the teaching body to establish relationships of closeness and trust with the students in a virtual context.
