The paper exposes the biography of Pedro Diaz de Vald & eacute;s, an official of the Spanish Crown and husband of Javiera Carrera Verdugo, to analyze the difficulties he faced in the context of changes experienced in Chile at the beginning of the 19th century and to understand, through them, part of the social and political complexities of that period. From an exploratory approach, the review of his biographical trajectory, since his arrival in Chile in 1800, allows to visualize part of the conflicts and tensions typical of a time of transition and crisis, from the perspective and experiences of a Spanish resident in Chile, civil servant of the Crown, but, at the same, time related to one of the most emblematic families of the emancipatory cause.
