This article seeks to analyze the compensation measures within the Environmental Impact Assessment System (SEIA), from the Ecosystem Approach perspective, binding principle in the Chilean legislation as a party of the Convention on Biological Diversity. Considering the current national and international doctrine and regulation, compensation measures filed within the SEIA were gathered for analysis. From such exercise, it was possible to identify how the Ecosystem Approach has influenced the design and approval of large project compensation measures. In this regard, this article seeks to analyze a change in the standard of approval of compensation measures within the SEIA, moving to a stringent environmental impact assessment system, in which integrity and interdependence of the different components of the ecosystem is recognized.
