Introduction: Local buccal mucosa flaps are versatile, presenting varied uses for the reconstruction of defects in the oral cavity. Within these we find the facial artery musculo-mucosal flap (FAMM) and the bucci-nator musculo-mucosal flap. Objectives: To describe the results of the use of local buccal mucosa flaps for the reconstruction of oral cavity defects at Hospital del Salvador during a period of 12 months. Materials and Methods: Report of 5 cases. Results: 5 local buccal mucosa flaps, 3 used to close palatal defects, 1 for coverage after partial glossectomy and 1 for a defect in the floor of the mouth. Of them, 4 FAMM flaps and 1 buccinator musculo-mucosal flap. All defects achieved adequate coverage, closing the donor area primarily. No flap showed partial or total loss during follow-up. Discussion and Conclusions: This type of flaps are versatile since they can be used to reliably cover defects in the oral cavity. Therefore we believe it is necessary to have this type of flaps in the arsenal for head and neck reconstruction.
