A methodology that recognizes homogeneous urban areas and defines them using a multi-variable matrix is developed in order to use this analysis in a proposal to update the Urban Development Plan of Valparaiso. The methodology is twofold; it identifies these areas according to their geomorphological configuration and develops a matrix that will allow evaluating the homogeneous areas of Valparaiso, considering variables in three areas: environment and territory, social and urban environment. The results affect the usefulness of this methodology in updating the Municipal Urban Development Plan of Valparaiso, helping to visualize how urban planning regulations can contribute to the formation of a neighbourhood, on the understanding that each type of homogeneous urban area shows certain dependencies and balance between these norms.
