Causal process tracing is a methodology that seeks observable implications in causal processes based on assumptions. It does this through case studies oriented towards this search. Its goal is to establish whether a succession of events or pro-cesses in the case fit with what has been explained by theory before, which allows showing the con-sequences of what can be seen as the cause of the mechanisms (M) by analyzing the parts (n) that conform them. In this regard, "diagnostic" piec-es are integrated from the case study and made up of the available evidence that allows the as-sumptions considered in the research design to be supported or not. In this article, we aim to ex-plain the method of tracing causal processes and causal mechanisms. This will allow us to show whether its use is proper for developing political science in our region.
