In the midst of job field changes for journalism and communication, including a crisis in the media industry and growing precarization of working conditions, a new area of the profession has been gaining strength: entrepreneurial journalism. Through a qualitative approach and semistructured interviews with 15 Chilean entrepreneurial journalists, we aim to identify their motivations for entrepreneurship, perceived difficulties and benefits, and personal or professional characteristics. Among the results, it is highlighted that the main motivation lies in disappointment or discomfort with traditional workspaces; professional development stands out among the benefits; financial instability is a major difficulty; and resilience is the predominant personal characteristic. Among the main conclusions, we observe that this new professional profile is often framed more by contextual reasons than by vocational decisions.
