This research reports the presence of interdental realizations as allophonic variants of the phoneme /(sic)/ in speakers of upper-middle socio-cultural level, from 3 cities in Chile: Iquique, Santiago and Punta Arenas. The speech sample considered the read-aloud elicitation of thirty speakers, 15 males and 15 females, who produced a total of 480 realizations of the phoneme /(sic)/. Since perceptually it was not possible to determine the point of articulation of the realizations of /(sic)/, a visual analysis of each phonetic production was chosen. The results obtained indicate that there are 28% of interdental realizations in the observed speakers. With respect to the production of the interdental sound, the variable showed statistically significant differences in favor of females compared to males; in the case of the geographic origin of the speakers, there were no statistically significant differences. It is also possible to note an important influence of the phonetic context on interdental realizations.
