This paper presents a Model Predictive Control approach for Open-End Winding Induction Motors with common DC link fed inverters, focusing on suppressing zero-sequence current. Zero-sequence currents can be generated from phenomena like inverter modulation and back EMF harmonics. A discrete model of the motor and a formulation of the optimal control problem are laid out, including constraint formulation for the system voltages and currents, making no assumptions of how the zero-sequence current is generated. Using the proposed scheme an over 3 times reduction of the amplitude of the zero-sequence current was observed with no assumptions of the source of the perturbations made by the controller. This research aims to be a definition of a model predictive control strategy for the OEWIM.
