This article examines Afro-feminine identities that emerge within the current context of Chile, based on the experiences of Chilean Afro-descendant women and those of the Afro-diaspora in Arica and Santiago. These women confront diverse manifestations of racism, xenophobia, and patriarchal biases, amidst a backdrop characterized by increased visibility and recent afro migration trends in Latin America. Besides, the theoretical reflection centers on the concepts of racialization and sexualization, aiming to scrutinize the establishment of power dynamics concerning the case of Afro women, from the direct perspectives and voices of Afro-Chilean and Afro-migrant women in the country. The findings expose the most prevalent stereotypes encompassing Afro women, which entail connotations of sexualization of their corporalities and subjectivities. Nonetheless, a variety of resistance strategies employed by these women to challenge and dismantle these constraining representations are also identified. The present study is underpinned by a multidisciplinary approach encompassing literature review, historical analysis, and ethnographic immersion. Through its results, it seeks to contribute both theoretically and empirically to fields of study related to the Afro-descendant and gender in Chile.
