This paper addresses the processes of patrimonialization of two sites of memory protected as historical monuments, the ruins of the former Villa San Luis de Las Condes and the former balneario popular Rocas de Santo Domingo, both places used for political repression and/or resistance against the Chilean military civic dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. Based on ethnographic fieldwork and a historiographical analysis, we reflect on the insufficiency of the National Monuments Law for the effective protection and preservation of protected sites and the role that groups of victims of human rights violations have had in order to avoid its progressive intervention and destruction. Through this approach, we analyzed the spaces such as disintegrated monuments, pondering about the emergence of the use of new technologies in enhance the value of spaces threatened by progressive material disposal.
