Throughout the Elqui Valley, in the region of Coquimbo, Chile, there are numerous buildings built with earthen techniques. Particularly important are those that are deteriorating, aban-doned or in use, and that have an imminent heritage value. Thanks to the Dicyt-Capital Semilla N° 092090MP_ARQ research project of the Vice-Rectory for Research, Development and Innovation of the University of Santiago de Chile-USACH, an investigation was proposed whose objective was to generate rehabilitation guidelines for vernacular buildings on land in Elqui Valley’s, based on the identification of those cases, prefera-bly far from urban centers-in this case from the commune of Vicuña-and the selection of representative properties of different types, in order to then be able to establish the degree of valuation by the communities in which that are inserted and specify the level of commit-ment to their rehabilitation.
