Talent retention has become a tough challenge in the information technology (IT) industry. Thus, this study examines the effects of transformational leadership on employees’ intentions to stay in the organization through the negotiation of idiosyncratic employment terms (i-deals). Data were collected in a non-random sample of 109 IT workers contacted through a network approach. The results reveal that transformational leaders are more likely to negotiate idiosyncratic deals and that this leadership style is positively related to employees’ intentions to stay in the organization. Future research should further explore the role of idiosyncratic negotiation in the dynamics examined in this article and, particularly, its differential pattern of effects on talent retention based on the type of i-deal under negotiation.
