Abstract: Expert intelligentsia has dominated the Chilean right-wing since the return to democratic rule in 1990. Nonetheless, between 2010 and 2018, a new cadre of young humanist intellectuals emerged within the Right, questioning some of the practices and ideas defended by this sector. This article examines the origin of this humanist intelligentsia. After reviewing various sources, it concludes that the origin of these intellectuals might be related to the exhaustion of the “Chicago-gremialista” narrative, a generational change, and the inability of the expert intellectual to process and respond to contemporary Chilean problems.
