Two main ideas and one proposal structure this article. First, a version of the concept of freedom, specifically liberal, forms the Chilean model. This version of freedom is conservative and is naturalized as the only and unique sense of freedom. Second, and in opposition to the naturalization of the liberal freedom, modern political philosophy is characterized by conceptual, semantic and doctrinal pluralism and, consequently, a number of plausible concepts of freedom do exist. The article assesses the liberal freedom and its derivatives, as well as the communitarian and standard republican freedom. Based on the latter, the proposal develops further Antoni Domenech's republican democratic idea of material freedom.
