This paper offers an exploratory analysis on the first set of texts related to the classical ancient world published in Chile in the mid-nineteenth century. The research proposes that its authors-teachers from the National Institute and the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities of the University of Chile-defended and promoted Latin studies in the country and the Humanist Study Plan for secondary education, constituting the first cultural community that devoted itself to classical studies at the local level. Their written production accounts for the wide catalog of Greek and Roman authors that they came to know and the assessment that they developed on the classical world, at the service of their pedagogical intentions for the moral education of Chilean youth.
