This study evaluated the discrimination perceived by South American immigrants located in the Tarapaca region of Northern Chile, according to their socio-demographic variables. A cross-sectional design was employed in which a questionnaire was administered to 374 South American immigrants of legal age, and who had been living in Chile for more than one (1) year. Descriptive analyses along with an analysis of variance were carried out to identify possible statistically significant differences between groups. The main results indicate that the socio-demographic conditions associated with greater discrimination were: being a Venezuelan national; being a woman; living alone; and relating mainly with immigrants of a third nationality. The implications of the results are discussed and suggestions are made for future research considering the migrant population residing in this region.
