This reflection aims to characterize revolutionary organizations in the Southern Cone with respect to their definitions and actions regarding political violence during the confrontation cycle for a new order. To do this, we analyze four dimensions of revolutionary organizations based on Ansaldi & Giordano (2014) proposal for the study of political violence.The results indicate that these organizations are composed of various left-wing sectors that, due to the limitations of the bourgeois democratic order to respond to transformations and the experience of the Cuban revolution, propose political violence as a preferred means of struggle. However, the circumstances of each country demanded the use of both armed and political means.
