The article aims to analyze, from a cultural studies perspective, the representation of the 1962 World Cup. The event will be understood as a sports carnival that was culturally appropriated by popular sectors, facilitating the deepening of the relationship between the activity and characteristic elements of everyday life and popular culture of Chileans. It is proposed that the carnival atmosphere allowed for the consolidation of football activity and its entire network of cultural meanings as an integral part of society. Methodologically, the study is based on chronicles, notes, and opinion columns published in Estadio magazine (1956-1962), Gol y gol (1962), and La Nacion newspaper (1956-1962). Finally, the article proposes a reflection on the importance of studying soccer in history and its contribution to understanding Chilean culture in the mid-twentieth century.
