The dynamism in the software industry has transformed the way applications are developed. Software engineering now focuses on addressing needs quickly, flexibly, and with high quality to enhance productivity and customer satisfaction. Despite the variety of development methodologies available, selecting the right one for a specific project can be challenging. This study provides guidelines for selecting an appropriate agile methodology for software development, based on an analysis of 50 software factories, both small and medium-sized, located in Bogota, Colombia. Using a quantitative approach with a descriptive and explanatory scope, data was collected through online surveys and interviews. The results indicate that 44% of developers prefer the Scrum methodology, while 46% of project leaders opt for a combination of Scrum and Kanban. These agile methodologies have become essential in current software development.
