This article studies the creation and historical course of the Galvarino Society (Sociedad Galvarino) from 1932 through the end of the 1970s. Probably the first Mapuche organization in Santiago, Chile, the Galvarino Society (later Sociedad Union Araucana Galvarino) was formed by migrants who left Mapuche land after "the reductions" in search of job opportunities in the capital city. The article analyzes the organization's history and main milestones, unraveling the concerns behind its collective action and the political ties it established.
